Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell said that quarterback Blake Bortles "is not a place-holder."
"For everything he has been through and all of the things people say he can’t do, he has proven that he can do it," Caldwell said. "This wasn’t a decision where he’s going to be here for a year and we’re going to be keeping our eyes out." The Jaguars signed Bortles to a three-year, $54 million deal just over a week ago, so this all but confirms his status in the eyes of the franchise.
In 2017, Bortles threw for 3,687 yards, 21 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He added 2 scores on the ground in 16 starts.
