Texans' Ryan Mallett benched in second quarter; Brian Hoyer excels in relief
Houston Texans quarterback Ryan Mallett completed 7-of-10 passes for 50 yards and an interception before getting benched in the second quarter of Houston's 27-20, Week 5 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
Mallett had to check out after taking a shot to the ribs midway through the second quarter. He was almost certainly ticketed to come back in before Brian Hoyer immediately began moving the offense. Hoyer ended up passing for 312 yards in a losing effort.
Mallett amassed -2.01 Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) in his time in the game while Hoyer added 18.44 Passing NEP. The job is likely Hoyer's for the time being. Houston plays the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 6.
