Browns to 'explore' using Justin Gilbert on offense

Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator John DeFilippo said the team is ready to "explore" using cornerback Justin Gilbert on offense.

What It Means:

Gilbert -- the No. 8 overall pick in the 2014 draft -- has only played eight snaps on defense this season. He did log three kick returns for 110 yards, including one for 38 yards, in Week 4, so it's possible he could be of value elsewhere.

The Browns could certainly use playmakers, though their offense has been competent this year. They are 17th in Adjusted Net Expected Points (NEP) per play and eighth in Adjusted Passing NEP per play. If the team doesn't see Gilbert contributing on defense, though, then there's no harm in experimenting.
