Alex Smith and the Washington Redskins agree on a 4-year contract extension

The Washington Redskins have agreed to a new four-year contract extension with newly acquired quarterback Alex Smith, per Adma Schefter of ESPN.

What It Means:

The Redskins just acquired the former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback in a trade and have already locked the 33-year-old to a four-year extension. Smith had one year left at $17M on a four-year contract he signed with the Chiefs in 2015. His arrival signals the end of the Kirk Cousins-era in Washington, who will be an unrestricted free agent come March.

Smith led the NFL with a career-best 104.7 quarterback rating in 2017.
