Gerald Hodges

Vikings trade linebacker Gerald Hodges to 49ers

The Minnesota Vikings have traded inside linebacker Gerald Hodges to the San Francisco 49ers.

What It Means:

They'll receive rookie center Nick Easton and a sixth-round pick in return. Hodges was starting, but his value had decreased as the Vikings have a young, talented Eric Kendricks waiting for a full-time role on their defense. He'll likely slide into the starting lineup. The Vikings also gained some much-needed offensive line depth with Easton.

The 49ers defense hasn't been as bad as expected, ranking 20th in the NFL in Adjusted Defensive Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per play. They rank 31st in the league per our Adjusted Defensive Rushing NEP per play metric, however, so Hodges' presence will likely help them control the run game better.
