The Arizona Cardinals have hired former Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks as the next head coach.
Wilks spent last season as the Panthers' assistant head coach and defensive coordinator. He was a defensive backs coach for Carolina since 2012 and has spent time with the Chicago Bears and San Diego Chargers in a similar role before that. He replaces Bruce Arians who retired after 5 seasons with Arizona.
The Cardinals finished 2017 with an 8-8 record while owning the 16th-best overall nERD rating. Their defense ranked 30th and their offense 6th, according to our metrics.
