Bengals' A.J. McCarron wanted 'opportunity' to start for Browns

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback A.J. McCarron said he wanted the "opportunity" to start for the Cleveland Browns.

What It Means:

"I think I would have had some success playing for [Browns head coach] Hue [Jackson]," McCarron said. "I would have loved the opportunity to go up there and get them a win, more than one win." Andy Dalton's backup was all but headed to Cleveland at the trade deadline to compete for the Browns' starting quarterback job, but the paperwork was not filed in time, causing the deal to fall incomplete. McCarron will know his status on February 15, but whether he's a restricted or unrestricted free agent, the 27-year-old signal-caller has made it clear he wants to compete for a starting job in the league.

On a career-high 131 drop backs in 2015, McCarron posted 0.14 Passing Net Expected Points per drop back, the 12th-best mark among the 46 quarterbacks with at least 100 drop backs that year. He completed 66.4 percent of his 119 pass attempts for 854 yards while throwing 6 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.
