According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the New York Jets have placed quarterback Josh McCown on injured reserve.
McCown broke his non-throwing hand in Sunday's loss to the Denver Broncos. He will require surgery to correct the issue, thereby ending his impressive 2017 season. The 38-year-old will be a free agent heading into the 2018 campaign. Bryce Petty is set to assume the starting role over the last three games.
In 13 starts, McCown completed 67.3% of his passes and threw for 2,926 yards, 18 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. He also accounted for 5 scores on the ground this season.
