C.J. Beathard 'pretty banged up,' unlikely to start for 49ers in Week 13
San Francisco 49ers quarterback C.J. Beathard (knee, hip) is "pretty banged up," but will need to practice on Wednesday in order to start against the Chicago Bears in Week 13, head coach Kyle Shanahan said.
Shanahan cast doubt about whether Beathard would be able to participate in Wednesday's practice, and if he can't, that would open the door for Jimmy Garoppolo to make his first start in a 49ers uniform on Sunday versus the Bears. After relieving Beathard in Week 12, Garoppolo went 2-for-2 for 18 yards and a touchdown late in garbage time.
Garoppolo completed 63-of-94 passes (67.0 percent) for 690 yards with 5 touchdowns and 0 interceptions during his career with the Patriots.
