San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brian Hoyer will be released after Jimmy Garoppolo was acquired in a trade with the New England Patriots, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Hoyer signed a two-year deal with the 49ers this offseason and started the first 6 games of this season, before being replaced by C.J. Beathard in the middle of Week 6 against the Washington Redskins. He has not played in the two games since then.
In 6 starts this year, Hoyer's -0.09 Passing Net Expected Points per drop back was his worst mark since the 2012 season.
