Jaguars sign Telvin Smith to four-year extension

The Jacksonville Jaguars and inside linebacker Telvin Smith have agreed to a four-year extension worth $50 million through the 2021 season.

What It Means:

Smith, a former fifth-round pick pick in 2014, has proven himself to be one of the more athletic and productive linebackers in the game. After posting 107 tackles, eight passes defensed and two interceptions a year ago, the 27-year-old has already turned in 49 tackles, three passes defensed and a sack, not to mention two interceptions, with one going for a touchdown this season.

With the Jaguars on a Week 8 bye, Smith will return to the field a rich man in Week 9. That's when he'll face the Cincinnati Bengals, against who he's projected for 9.3 tackles, 0.5 passes defensed and 0.2 sacks. We project him for 82.1 tackles, 3.4 passes defensed and 1.8 sacks over the duration of the 2017 season.
