49ers release linebacker Navorro Bowman
The San Francisco 49ers have released veteran linebacker Navorro Bowman.
Bowman was reportedly on the trade block, but the 49ers evidently decided it was best to just move on. "Navorro gave his heart and soul to this team for the last eight years, and for that we are all extremely grateful," said GM John Lynch in a statement. Bowman will almost certainly get a chance with another team in short order.
Bowman is a four-time Pro Bowler, and has played his entire career with the 49ers. Entering a Week 6 matchup with the Washington Redskins, the 49ers defense rank 25th in schedule-adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points allowed per play.
