Packers' Jamaal Williams sprained knee, facing extended absence
Green Bay Packers running back Jamaal Williams has a sprained knee and is expected to "miss time," NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.
Williams suffered the injury early in the second quarter Thursday night shortly after replacing Ty Montgomery (ribs) as the Packers' lead back. It sounds like this will be a week-to-week type of injury for the fourth-round rookie. In the meantime, Aaron Jones will take over as Green Bay's starting running back, followed by Aaron Ripkowski and fellow rookie, seventh-rounder Devante Mays.
Williams rushed 4 times for 11 yards in Week 4 before exiting. Per numberFire Live, he finished last on the Packers with -1.50 Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP), meaning a league average running back would have scored 1.50 more points than Williams did if put in similar situations. For reference, Montgomery led the team with 1.37 Rushing NEP.
