Taylor Mays, Larry Asante may start at safety for Raiders Week 2
The Oakland Raiders may be forced to start Taylor Mays and Larry Asante at safety this week due to injuries in Week 1, according to ESPN's Bill Williamson.
Both starters Nate Allen and Charles Woodson exited the season opener with injuries. Allen has a torn MCL and will miss several weeks while Woodson suffered a dislocate shoulder and has no timetable for his return.
The Raiders finished 25th in our schedule-adjusted Defensive Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per play, and these injuries won't help that. Through one week, they rank 27th in that same stat this year. Their Week 2 opponent, the Baltimore Ravens, were seventh in Adjusted Passing NEP per play last year, and they could be primed for a big game in Week 2 after a tough start in Week 1.
