Antonio Gates leads Chargers' tight ends in snaps
Los Angeles Chargers tight end Antonio Gates hauled in two of his four targets for 17 yards in the Chargers' Week 1 loss to the Denver Broncos on Monday night.
Gates didn't show up in the box score until late in the game, with the Chargers trailing. Nonetheless, he led L.A. tight ends with 38 of 58 possible snaps. The veteran was followed by breakout candidate Hunter Henry (23) and blocking tight end Sean Culkin (11). Gates was still held without a score, which means he remains tied with Tony Gonzalez for the most touchdowns by a tight end all-time.
Next week doesn't bode all that well for Gates' chances of securing the record. While our numbers like him to produce 2.9 receptions and 30.8 yards on 5.0 targets, we project him for just 0.29 touchdowns against the Miami Dolphins. The 37-year-old will cost you $5,300 on the Week 2 slate.
