Melvin Gordon sees 23 touches, finds end zone in Chargers' loss
Los Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon rushed 18 times for 54 yards and caught 5-of-6 passes for 25 yards with a receiving touchdown on Monday night in a 24-21 loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 1.
Two plays in the first quarter (21-yard run on his first touch, 11-yard receiving score) accounted for 32 of Gordon's 79 offensive yards on Monday, but he averaged only 2.2 yards on his other 21 touches. Despite the inefficient production, it's clear that new Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn intends to use Gordon as a true workhorse out of the backfield. He's locked-in as a top-tier RB1 for Week 2 at home against the Miami Dolphins.
Gordon's 16.4 FanDuel points in Week 1 were slightly more than what our models expected (13.7). He's numberFire's 5th-best fantasy back in Week 2 versus Miami, and we project him for 15.5 FanDuel points at a cost of $7,600, with 98.2 offensive yards and 0.76 touchdowns on 20.0 touches (2.8 catches).
