Julius Thomas likely low-volume red-zone option for Dolphins
Miami Dolphins tight end Julius Thomas is expected to be featured in the red-zone, but not to catch many passes overall, in 2017.
With quarterback Jay Cutler under center, there should be a ton of downfield slinging between the 20's, diminishing Thomas's overall volume. He'll still be a big target in close, however. In the third preseason game, Thomas's performance was emblematic of that expectation: he caught two passes for one yard and a touchdown. Still, we'll obviously have to wait until Week 2 to see that in action, due to the Dolphins' hurricane-induced Week 1 bye.
Our models project Thomas for 33.2 receiving yards and 0.3 receiving touchdowns on 3.3 catches in his next game, Week 2 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
