Eagles' Zach Ertz expects more targets this season
Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz expects to see more targets absent Jordan Matthews in 2017.
Last year, Matthews led all Eagles pass-catchers with 117 targets, but he's now in Buffalo after an offseason trade with the Bills. As a result, quarterback Carson Wentz will be forced to send those targets elsewhere. And while Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith man the outside, Matthews' slot targets could be headed Ertz' way after the tight end posted 22 catches in the two games Matthews missed last season.
Ertz' 106 targets and 78 receptions were already 2nd and 1st on the team in 2016, yet we project him for 111.2 targets and 74.3 catches in 2017. In Week 1, our models like him to garner 7 targets while hauling in 4.7 catches for 52.7 yards and 0.28 touchdowns. He costs $5,900 in his matchup with the Washington Redskins.
