Steelers acquire Vance McDonald from 49ers

The Pittsburgh Steelers have acquired tight end Vance McDonald from the San Francisco 49ers.

What It Means:

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the trade also involves a fifth-round pick going to Pittsburgh and a fourth-rounder being shipped to San Francisco in the exchange. It's a cheap get for the Steelers, who will now carry the promising tight end's contract into the 2021 season. And, at $16 million guaranteed, you would expect McDonald to receive playing time and contribute in a starter's role before long. Meanwhile, George Kittle should get more snaps in San Francisco.

In 11 games last season, McDonald tallied 24 catches for 391 yards and 4 touchdowns. Even before the trade to an upgraded Pittsburgh offense, we projected the 27-year-old for 34 receptions, 440.1 yards and 4.5 touchdowns in 2017. Going undrafted in standard leagues, McDonald could surpass his TE24 ranking this season.
