Bryce Petty receives praise from Jets for summer improvement

New York Jets quarterback Bryce Petty has made "legit improvement" this summer, said head coach Todd Bowles.

What It Means:

It sounds like Petty is destined to be second on the Jets' depth chart, behind Josh McCown and ahead of Christian Hackenberg. He's been working behind Hackenberg in the preseason due to a minor knee issue. McCown is 38-years-old and has proven incapable of staying healthy for a full 16-game campaign, so it's only a matter of time before Petty takes over as the Jets' starter this season. Hackenberg appears to have no future in the NFL.

McCown is numberFire's 31st-ranked fantasy quarterback entering the season, in which we project him to throw for 3,333.2 passing yards with 18.1 touchdowns and 13.6 interceptions. Petty's 16-game outlook would be slightly worse than that.
