Jaguars name Blake Bortles their Week 1 starter
Jacksonville Jaguars coach Doug Marrone has named Blake Bortles the team's starting quarterback for Week 1 versus the Houston Texans.
After Marrone said that he wouldn't name a starting quarterback following the team's third preseason game, Jacksonville's head coach has done just that two days later. Bortles was recently demoted for the Jaguars' Thursday night matchup with the Carolina Panthers, but he is back in the top spot after a poor showing from Chad Henne (8-of-14 for 73 yards).
Bortles completed 12-of-16 attempts for 125 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 pick against the Panthers' backups. He also led the team to another scoring drive in his time on the field. For the regular season, our models projected the 25-year-old for 1,880.9 yards, 12.9 touchdowns and 8.2 interceptions, but that will likely change with today's news.
