Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter: Charles Sims 'has had an outstanding camp'

With starting running back Doug Martin suspended for the first three games of 2017, there's some mystery in the Buccaneers backfield. Amid the intrigue, head coach Dirk Koetter praised the entire unit, including passing-down back Charles Sims. "I think Charles Sims has had an outstanding camp," Koetter said this week.

What It Means:

Koetter also had nice things to say about Jacquizz Rodgers, Peyton Barber, and Jeremy McNichols -- all of whom will be competing for touches in Martin's absence. Rodgers is expected to start and carry the workload until Martin returns.

Known for his pass-catching ability, our models project Sims to lead all Tampa Bay running backs in receptions this season, with 31.4, and receiving yards, with 282.1. His 32 targets were the fifth-most of any player on the Bucs in 2016.
