49ers GM John Lynch: Brian Hoyer has 'first crack' at being franchise quarterback
San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch said last week, "We’ve said from the beginning we want a franchise quarterback around here, and a lot of people are making assumptions as to what Brian’s role is. Our response to Brian and to everybody is he’s got the first crack of being that guy."
After looking shaky during minicamp earlier this summer, Hoyer has reportedly been sharp in practices this offseason. And while he had an embarrassing fumble in Saturday's 33-14 preseason loss to Denver, Lynch has said he's "exceeding expectations," and the 49ers have confidence in Hoyer as their starting quarterback.
Our models aren't as confident in Hoyer as Lynch is -- we project Hoyer to throw for 19.3 touchdowns and 17.1 interceptions in 2017. He's the 28th-ranked quarterback in our preseason fantasy football rankings.
