Kony Ealy fighting for roster spot with Patriots
New England Patriots defensive end Kony Ealy is "in a legitimate fight" for a roster spot, ESPN reporter Mike Reiss believes.
Acquired via trade from the Carolina Panthers in March, the former second-round pick was expected to help replace retired edge rusher Rob Ninkovich. Fourth-round rookie Deatrich Wise Jr. has been getting most of the snaps with the starters, however, while Ealy has been "working mostly with the backups and end-of-roster players," according to Reiss. Despite a dominating performance in Super Bowl 50, Ealy's career has never taken off.
No matter who the starters are, the New England D/ST is a strong option in fantasy every season. For Week 1 of 2017, we project them as the sixth-best option in fantasy football as they face off against the Kansas City Chiefs.
