Watson largely played it safe as a passer with high-percentage attempts between the numbers, but he exhibited excellent poise behind center while also putting his playmaking skills on display with a 15-yard scamper for a score in the third quarter. The rookie's ability for extending plays adds a dimension to the Texans' offense that they simply don't have with Tom Savage under center. It seems inevitable that Watson will eventually surpass Savage for the starting quarterback job in Houston, but it remains to be seen whether it happens before Week 1.

For now, numberFire's algorithms have Savage as the starter, and we project him for 325.0 passing attempts, good for 2,060.9 passing yards, 11.84 touchdowns, and 9.6 interceptions. Without even accounting for the likelihood that he loses the starting job, that ranks him only 32nd among fantasy quarterbacks in our models.
