Tony Jerod-Eddie

49ers to play Tony Jerod-Eddie at outside linebacker?

Defensive end Tony Jerod-Eddie saw time at outside linebacker in Thursday's final preseason game for the San Francisco 49ers.

What It Means:

Jerod-Eddie is a massive player at 6-foot-5, 300 pounds, and very clearly better suited to playing as a defensive end in the 49ers' 3-4 scheme. Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group speculates that this play was as a result of the Niners attempting to test out his versatility in the wake of losing linebacker Ahmad Brooks to injury.

This is just another example of how badly the 49ers are scrambling to plug holes in their defensive front this season. Jerod-Eddie should be a part of the rotation at defensive end, but not a part of the linebacker group, as decimated as it is. We project the San Francisco D/ST to finish 17th among fantasy units this year, but that may be a generous ranking.
