Buccaneers cut Connor Barth, go with Kyle Brindza at kicker
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released kicker Connor Barth today as part of their final roster cuts. Kyle Brindza will be their starting kicker for the 2015 season.
Tampa Bay claimed Barth off of waivers after he was released from the Denver Broncos, and they hoped the leg marksman would be able to compete for the starting role. Barth was a member of the Bucs from 2009 to 2012. Brindza was a 2015 undrafted rookie who signed with the Detroit Lions before being traded to Tampa Bay this week.
We had actually projected Patrick Murray to win this job out of camp, and to finish as the 14th-best fantasy kicker this year. Brindza has plenty of leg strength, and despite a down year in accuracy for Notre Dame in 2014, he should be fine in the breezy conditions of Tampa. He'll likely slot into Murray's old projection: 27-of-30, 32 extra points.
