Dolphins sign Jay Cutler to a one-year, $10M deal

The Miami Dolphins have agreed to terms with former Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler on a one-year, $10 million contract with another $3 million available via incentives.

What It Means:

With Ryan Tannehill re-tearing the ACL in his knee, and being subsequently out for the season, the Dolphins needed a replacement and got their man in Cutler. The 34-year-old briefly retired QB is reunited with Dolphins' head coach Adam Gase, who was the offensive coordinator in Chicago in 2015 when Cutler posted career-best numbers. Matt Moore will serve as the backup QB with Cutler heading into the year as the unquestioned starter.

In 2015, Cutler threw for 21 TDs with a 64.4% completion percentage. However, 2016 was a year to forget as he played only 5 games, due to injuries, and posted -0.08 net expected points per pass attempt, ranking him 37th out of all 38 QBs who attempted at least 150 passes.
