Browns likely to tab Brock Osweiler to start preseason opener

Cleveland Browns quarterback Brock Osweiler has "signs... pointing" to him starting the team's first preseason game, ESPN reports.

What It Means:

Osweiler hasn't seen many reps with the first-team offense, but outplayed DeShone Kizer and Cody Kessler in Friday's team scrimmage. Head coach Hue Jackson said he could "shake things up" next week, suggesting Osweiler will be the new starter at practice. With Kessler struggling, the Week 1 regular-season job may be down to Osweiler and Kizer.

Our models still project Kessler as the starter for 2017, affording him 3,271 passing yards, 17.88 touchdowns, and 15.40 interceptions on 494 attempts – the 31st-most fantasy points among quarterbacks in our rankings. Osweiler wouldn't be much better if he earns the job.
