Miami Dolphins in talks with Jay Cutler

The Miami Dolphins have had discussions with retired quarterback Jay Cutler about a potential deal, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

What It Means:

By all reports, it looks like Cutler is the Dolphins' top choice to sign if Ryan Tannehill is indeed out for 2017 NFL season. He previously played under head coach Adam Gase when Gase was the Chicago Bears' offensive coordinator in 2015. Cutler has told the team he is willing to come out of retirement to play in Miami this season, but the Dolphins are still waiting to make a final decision on Tannehill's future. If Cutler is signed, he will become the team's starter with Matt Moore backing him up.

Cutler threw for 1,059 yards with 4 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions in 5 games started in 2016 with Chicago. He posted a -0.08 net expected points per pass attempt last season, ranking 37th out of the 38 quarterbacks who threw at least 150 passes.
