Rex Burkhead seeing short-yardage reps in Patriots' backfield

New England Patriots running back Rex Burkhead has been getting reps in short-yardage and goal-line situations, reports CSN New England's Mike Girardi.

What It Means:

"The Pats haven’t been shy about trying Burkhead in short-yardage situations down at the goal line," Girardi writes. He's already a known commodity as a pass-catcher, so adding another dimension to his game would provide head coach Bill Belichick with the type of versatility he desires out of his backfield. Mike Gillislee is the clear favorite to replace LeGarrette Blount, but it sounds like Burkhead will have the opportunity to carve out some standalone fantasy value in New England.

As of now, our models are modest on Burkhead, projecting him to rush only 58.1 times for 273.7 yards and 1.54 touchdowns in the upcoming season.
