Decision on Patriots' Tom Brady coming by 'end of the week'

Federal judge Richard Berman expects a ruling on the case involving New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady by the "end of the week."

What It Means:

As of now, Brady is suspended for the first four games. That suspension could be upheld, reduced or completely wiped out -- quite the range of options. If he misses time, Jimmy Garoppolo will take the reins of the New England offense. Garoppolo would be an intriguing streamer option Week 1 against a Pittsburgh Steelers' defense that gave up the 27th-most passing yards per game in 2014.

Last year, Brady ranked fifth in the league in Passing Net Expected Points (NEP), which indicates how many points above expectation level he added to his team's offense. Our algorithms project him to rack up 3,461 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions this year, provided that his four-game suspension limits him to 12 games.
