Jonathan Stewart

Jonathan Stewart should remain Panthers' lead back in 2017

Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart is expected to "see the bulk of the carries" despite the addition of rookie Christian McCaffrey, the official team website notes.

What It Means:

Per team writer Max Henson, "everyone from head coach Ron Rivera to running backs coach Jim Skipper has insisted that Stewart's role will not change." Stewart out-carrying McCaffrey would be a surprise after the Panthers drafted the rookie at eighth overall. Still, fantasy leagues have been ignoring the threat Stewart presents to both McCaffrey's ceiling and floor, particularly as a touchdown-scoring red-zone option.

Our models project Stewart for 664 rushing yards and 4.48 touchdowns on 164 attempts, with 12 receptions for 92 receiving yards and 0.16 touchdowns. That would be the second-most valuable fantasy running back on the Panthers, behind McCaffrey, and the 38th-ranked running back overall.
