Robert Griffin III

Redskins split over Robert Griffin's future

"Front office officials and coaches" want to move on from quarterback Robert Griffin III, but are "meeting resistance from team ownership," according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

What It Means:

Well, this is a messy situation. If Griffin isn't the starter, it will come down to Kirk Cousins or Colt McCoy.

Griffin's struggles were pronounced last season as he finished 45th in Passing Net Expected Points per play out of 48 quarterbacks who recorded at least 75 dropbacks while McCoy was 20th in a limited sample size. Cousins fared fairly admirably in his spot starts and relief action in 2014, compiling an 18th-best per-play Passing NEP mark among quarterbacks with at least 100 drop backs.
