Chiefs release Jeremy Maclin in a surprise move
The Kansas City Chiefs have released veteran wide receiver Jeremy Maclin.
A bit of a surprising move for the Chiefs as they lack depth at the receiver position. The release after June 1 will save the team $9.75 million in salary and $250,000 in a workout bonus. To be fair, Maclin was coming off the worst season of his career, and the 29-year-old appears to have his best days behind him. The Chiefs are left with Tyreek Hill and Chris Conley as the top receiving options to go along with tight end Travis Kelce. Maclin will almost certainly land himself a job by the start of training camp.
Maclin caught just 44 passes for 536 yards and 2 touchdowns last season. He posted 43.18 receiving net expected points -- ranking him 67th out of the 70 receivers who caught at least 40 passes.
