Carlos Hyde struggling in 49ers' new system

San Francisco 49ers running back Carlos Hyde has looked like "the slowest and most indecisive running back on the team" at OTAs, according to The Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

What It Means:

Hyde is transitioning from Chip Kelly's shotgun-based zone-read scheme last year to new head coach Kyle Shanahan's outside-zone system. Per beat writer Grant Cohn, Hyde "doesn't seem to have the vision to succeed" in Shanahan's offense, a concern voiced openly by new general manager John Lynch before the draft. Despite this, Hyde remains the favorite to start come Week 1.

Among the 42 running backs to top 100 carries in 2016, Hyde's -0.01 Rushing Net Expected Points per attempt checked in at 22nd.
