Kirk Cousins having productive contract talks with Washington
Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins, currently franchise-tagged, says extension talks have been "really positive."
"As one person told me, Deadlines do deals," said Cousins. "That’s just kind of a rule in negotiating, so why would something happen way before a deadline? I’m not in a hurry, they’re not in a hurry, so we’ll just see how things go." The team has been talks with Cousins since the start of the offseason, but they haven't gotten anywhere. It sounds like Cousins is still open to an extension if his demands are reached. Washington has until July 15 to work out a deal.
Cousins earned the sixth-most Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per drop back among the 39 quarterbacks to drop back at least 100 times in 2016. Over the last two seasons, he's completed 68.3 percent of his passes while throwing 54 touchdowns and 23 interceptions.
