Vance McDonald not a lock to make 49ers' final roster

San Francisco 49ers tight end Vance McDonald isn't guaranteed to make the final roster, according to Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle.

What It Means:

"It wouldn't be a surprise if he didn't make the final roster," Branch writes. The 49ers openly tried dealing McDonald during the draft, and in a related move, selected Iowa Hawkeyes tight end George Kittle with the 146th overall pick. McDonald turns 27 next month and has been limited to 33 games over the past three seasons due to injury, but is guaranteed $5.8 million over the next two years.

Among the 43 tight ends to see at least 30 targets in 2016, McDonald's 0.79 Reception Net Expected Points per target were eighth-most. He has 64 career receptions and seven touchdowns.
