Christian Hackenberg

Jets' Christian Hackenberg was wild even in practice last year

New York Jets quarterback Christian Hackenberg threw so many "off-target" passes in pregame warmups last season that scouts were "taken aback" by his inaccuracy, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.

What It Means:

Hackenberg, a second-round pick in the 2016 draft, couldn't even throw an accurate pass in warmups last year. This explains why he didn't see the field at all as a rookie, which seemed rather astounding at the time given the miserable play of Ryan Fitzpatrick and Bryce Petty. The Jets are having an open competition at quarterback this summer but Hackenberg is a long shot to overtake Josh McCown and Petty for the starting job.

The Jets finished 26th in schedule-adjusted Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per play last season. Among the 39 quarterbacks with at least 100 drop backs, McCown was 31st in Passing NEP per drop back.
