Eagles add LeGarrette Blount to backfield on one-year contract

The Philadelphia Eagles signed running back LeGarrette Blount, formerly of the New England Patriots, to a one-year contract.

What It Means:

It's an excellent landing spot for Blount, who figures to dominate the early-down work for Philadelphia's backfield. His arrival will also likely push Ryan Mathews out the door. A non-factor in the passing game, the 30-year-old Blount shouldn't have too much of an impact on the roles of Darren Sproles, Wendell Smallwood and Donnel Pumphrey.

Blount's 0.00 Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) per attempt was 18th among the 42 running backs to top 100 carries last season. As a team, the Eagles finished 12th in schedule-adjusted Offensive Rushing NEP per play.
