Samaje Perine should start for Washington in Week 1
Washington running back Samaje Perine will be the team's Week 1 starter, ESPN reporter John Keim projects.
Keim calls incumbent Rob Kelley a "complementary piece to Perine." The all-time leading rusher at Oklahoma, Perine packs 233 pounds onto a 5'11" frame and caught 40 passes in his three-year college career despite sharing the Sooners' backfield. In an efficient offense, Perine will offer considerable touchdown upside should he win the job.
Perine rushed for 4,122 rushing yards (6.0 yards per carry) with 49 touchdowns over three seasons as an Oklahoma Sooner. He added 321 receiving yards on his 40 catches with two more touchdowns through the air.
