Cardinals impressed with Andre Ellington's position switch

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Andre Ellington has received praise in his recent transition from running back from quarterback Carson Palmer.

What It Means:

Ellington has been learning how to play the slot and could help out in three- and four-wide sets. "Everything changes when he’s got to line up and there are 11 guys across the ball and he, post-snap, has to make decisions," Palmer said. "That’s difficult. But he runs really good routes, and the thing that really excites me is, once he gets the ball in his hands... he’s a running back."

While it's tough to translate running back Reception Net Expected Points (NEP) per target to wide receiver, Ellington generated 0.22 Reception NEP per target on 19 looks last year. That was about 0.12 Reception NEP per target below the value of the average running back target in 2016.
