Vikings decline to name starting running back
Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer answered, "We've got a long way to go before we make any determinations on that," in response to a question about who will start at running back in 2017.
Latavius Murray was signed to replace Adrian Peterson, but then the Vikings drafted Dalvin Cook in the second round. Murray may be used as a short-yardage, goal-line specialist while Cook dominates the early-down work. It's not an appealing fantasy situation, but Cook will probably provide better value in drafts than the 27-year-old Murray.
The Vikings were worst in the NFL last season in Adjusted Offensive Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) per play. While playing for the Oakland Raiders, Murray finished 12th in Rushing NEP per attempt among the 42 running backs with at least 100 rushing attempts in 2016.
