Charger believe Philip Rivers has plenty left in tank
Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers "can have three or four more productive years easily," claims head coach Anthony Lynn.
"He looks rejuvenated," Lynn said. "We definitely think Philip can still play." Rivers added 10 pounds during offseason conditioning, according to his head coach. The Chargers didn't add a quarterback in the draft, leaving Kellen Clemens and Mike Bercovici as the second and third options on the depth chart. Rivers turns 36 in December and he's under contract with the team through 2019.
Among the 39 quarterbacks to exceed 100 drop backs last season, Rivers ranked 20th in Passing Net Expected Points per drop back. His career-high 21 interceptions were most in the NFL in 2016.
