Bills don't pick up Sammy Watkins' option for 2018
The Buffalo Bills will decline the fifth-year team option for wide receiver Sammy Watkins in 2018.
The Bills are fearful of Watkins suffering another injury this upcoming season, which would guarantee him a massive payday for 2018. However, if the talented and very capable Watkins explodes, he'll be an unrestricted 24-year-old free agent next offseason. It's a pretty startling move after the Bills gave up so much to trade up for Watkins in the 2014 draft.
Watkins' Reception Net Expected Points per target was 30th-best among the 92 receivers with 50 targets in 2016.
