Buccaneers continue to sing Doug Martin's (suspension) praises
Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin (suspension) "has looked as good as I've seen him" during the offseason program, said general manager Jason Licht.
"Both mentally and physically he's been outstanding," Licht added. The Buccaneers continue to wax poetic about Martin, but Licht and head coach Dirk Koetter have both made it clear there will be healthy competition in Tampa Bay's backfield. Martin is suspended for the first three games of the season for PEDs, leading many to believe he would be released. However, that no longer seems to be the case. Jacquizz Rodgers, Charles Sims and fifth-round pick Jeremy McNichols will be asked to pick up the slack during those first three weeks.
Among the 42 running backs with at least 100 rushing attempts this year, Martin's -0.20 Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) per attempt ranked second-worst. His career-worst Rushing NEP per attempt prior to 2016 was -0.10 during the 2013 season.
