49ers' first-round pick Reuben Foster (shoulder) may need more surgery
San Francisco 49ers first-round linebacker Reuben Foster (shoulders) could require another procedure before the 2017 season, according to Mike Lombardi of The Ringer.
Lombardi and USA Today have both now disputed Foster's claim that he won't need more surgery. "The 49ers should count their lucky stars they didn't pick Reuben Foster at the third pick overall," Lombardi said. "Because Foster may require surgery before the season even begins. People are saying he's fine, everything's gonna be good. That's not what I'm told by a lot of teams in the league. That's why he slipped." The Alabama Crimson Tide product fell to the 31st pick due to concerns about his labrum and rotator cuff.
Foster recorded 24 tackles for a loss and eight sacks across 24 starts during his college tenure. He never forced a fumble at Alabama, but he stands to be a run-stopping force in the NFL, health pending.
