Detroit Lions general manager Bob Quinn has indicated that Ameer Abdullah is the team's starting running back.
The Detroit Lions didn't select a running back in the draft this weekend, and while the Lions' backfield remains crowded, with Abdullah being joined by Theo Riddick and Zach Zenner, it looks like Abdullah will get the first crack at the lead role.
Injuries limited Abdullah to only 18 carries in 2016, but over that small sample, he did post a team-high 0.14 Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) per carry. His -0.03 mark as a rookie in 2015 was also good for the second-highest mark on the team.
