Darren Sproles "has said several times" he anticipates 2017 being his final NFL season.
The Eagles only drafted one running back this year -- Donnel Pumphrey in the fifth round -- and their thin backfield, consisting of Sproles, Pumphrey, Ryan Mathews and Wendell Smallwood, will likely mean that Sproles will play a big role in his final NFL season.
Sproles' 0.06 Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) per carry were first among Eagles backs with 30-plus carries in 2016, while he also boasted a 0.24 Reception NEP per target.
