Jay Cutler interested in playing for Texans, never got called back
Free agent quarterback Jay Cutler had an interest in playing for the Houston Texans but the team wouldn't return his calls, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
The ex-Chicago Bears quarterback has heard crickets since hitting the open market. Cutler had a visit lined up with the New York Jets about a month ago, but that meeting was canceled after they signed Josh McCown to a one-year deal. Houston would have been an interesting landing spot, but instead, the Texans addressed their quarterback need by trading up to draft rookie Deshaun Watson with the 12th overall pick.
Among the 39 quarterbacks to top 100 drop backs last season, Cutler's Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per drop back ranked fourth-worst.
